Luxury demi-couture brand SABIRAH provides modest occasion wear to complete an elegant wardrobe and believes in the elevation of all women regardless of size, race, or religion.
For Collection 1.7 Creative Director Deborah Latouche drew inspiration from 1980s iconography with her muse none other than Dominique Devereux of the hit 80s TV show Dynasty. Powerful and glamorous, she is a significant figure for Latouche who says, “I remember watching Dynasty as a child and seeing this powerful, eloquent and beautiful woman, a black woman in an influential position – that was very important to see growing up.”
The influences can clearly be seen in the looks which included big shoulders juxtaposed with cinched waists, matching hats and clutches, and of course a power tie. The colour palette was delicate and refined with peaches and creams next to silvers and golds. Antique jewels added further vintage glamour alongside feathered hats and lace eyepieces by Piers Atkinson, completing the immaculately cut silhouettes.
Held below the Somerset house fountains, we were seated in an underground tunnel alongside exposed stone walls. The location provided a uniquely captivating atmosphere but proved a difficult feat for the models to walk their stiletto heels on the aged cobblestones with ankles wobbling.
The closing look was a sharp, voluminous fan coat, which used fifteen metres of netting in order to keep the structure. These impressive designs use end-of-life luxury fabrics sourced in Italy and subsequently tailored and made in London. Gorgeous wool and silk crepe were the fabrics for the season, with Latouche adding “I thoroughly enjoy sourcing fabrics, I could spend days at mills touching materials and imagining what to design. The fact that these fabrics are then transformed into beautiful, limited-edition pieces makes them even more special.” This perfectly encapsulates the SABIRAH conscious design mantra and allows tailoring to take centre stage.
Power dressing was undeniably achieved in this collection and the nod to strong 80s women shone through with the perfect touch of delicate elegance.
