Alex Fitts of The Kickdrums has stepped into new territory, shoulder to shoulder with New York Hip Hop producer Dub Sonata, for their collaborative project, Stolen Days.
Their first offering is ‘Butterfly‘, a well-structured debut. Its production is delicate and patient, and its instrumentation is organic. The release is a statement, with the collaboration forging years of previous work, with SZA, Sage Francis, Kid Cudi and more.
Speaking about the single, the duo explain: “We tried our best to push each other creatively on Butterfly, using our individual production styles to come up with something unique. The lyrics about change resonate with both of us a lot.“
For two producers whose work has often lived in service of other artists, ‘Butterfly’ feels quietly self-assured. This is an introduction, a first chapter, and a statement of intent, and ‘Butterfly’ delivers.
