On display until 31st of September at 24 Carnaby Street, the ‘Fast Extinction’ exhibition is a collection of 15 images which aim to connect with a fashion forward demographic who may not be aware of the extinction list, climate change or its contributors. Dressing models styled as animals on the current extinction list, Montana challenges the viewer to think more deeply about the way they live.

Leopard print is the 5th most popular print in the world with Tiger print taking first place on the list. The ‘Fast Extinction’ exhibition questions our love for these animals, and asks why aren’t we protecting them. The way we shop and the things we buy, made from materials such as plastic polyester heavily contribute to climate change, pushing the animals we love further towards the extinction and threatening our world as a result. The saddening reality is that with only 100 leopards left in the wild, soon the clothes in our wardrobe will outlive the animal long after its extinction.

Montana’s interest in photography started when at age 8 she won a award for RSPCA wildlife photographer of the year, she then went to win this award 3 years in a row and followed with a exhibition of her work documenting monkeys in Gibraltar. Growing up with a love of animals, the environment and fashion and founding her own sustainable studio Stepthirtyone, Montana then found herself in a unique position where she could bring her two passions together.

“Our existence can be sustainable, it can work in harmony with our planet and this is my aim, to educate myself and others, protect what we have, restore what we have lost, and invest in a better future, I believe that the WWF will help us to do this.” – Montana Lowery
