John Richmond presents ‘White Light, White Heat’ | LFW SS27

John Richmond presents White Light, White Heat, the Spring/Summer 2027 collection: a reflection on silhouette, contrast and light, whereform becomes the language through which memory, music and emotion take shape.

The project begins with form: sculpted curves, architectural lines and a rigorous precision that recalls the great tradition ofcouturephotography. The silhouette is not simply the framework for the clothes, but becomes their true subject. Essential, refined anduncompromisingly linear, each look is reduced to its most fundamental gesture.

The entire visual narrative is driven by a constant tension between light and darkness, concealment and revelation. Graphic panels of sheerfabric meet opaque surfaces; transparency cuts through structure, placing the visible in direct contrast with the impenetrable. Laceappears not as ornament, but as an element of disruption: its fragility set against the rigour of architectural lines, softnessagainst control.

The palette is deliberately essential: black and white, explored through shifts in opacity, surface and texture. Within this disciplinedframework, colour emerges with intention, never excess: an iconic Bowie blue, a sudden flash of coral red. Texture carries the sameintensity: python-effect leather, glossy surfaces, mirrors, sequins and crystals catch and reflect the light, introducing movement intootherwise controlled silhouettes.

Music has always been an essential part of John Richmond’s language and, this season, it enters directly into the constructionof the show. Alongside the models, young musicians take to the runway: talents invited not to play a role, but to bring themselves, their attitude andtheir own way of dressing.

Presence, sound and movement create a more physical and immediate show, where style and performance occupy the same space. It is John Richmond’s language in its most direct form: a fashion show with the energy of a live performance.

As ever, “music forms the invisible architecture of the collection”. The incandescent intensity of electric sound runs through the clothes, defining their rigour, sensuality and refusal to settle into silence.

The title ‘White Light White Heat’ is taken directly from the Velvet Underground song of the same name: an expression of speed, light andelectricity that encapsulates the spirit of the project.

The finale brings the narrative full circle. After the final look, Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart performs ‘White Light/White Heat’ live, as themodels and musicians return to the runway and gather around him. The closing parade becomes a chorus: everyone joining togetheron therefrain, bringing fashion, music and performance into a single image.

A few minutes that capture the essence of the show and of John Richmond’s language: energy, attitude, visual tension and music as adefining element of the brand’s identity.

Here, light is not simply something to be seen. It is something to be felt: blinding, seductive, revealing.
