Year of the Whorse | Editorial

In comparison to the year of the snake, which was tied to the idea of shredding and old skin, the year of the whorse signifies freedom, opportunity, ambition and passion. The snake had intense imperative energy which has transitioned this year to a more fast paced and spiritual mood. The connotation of the horse has been manifested with more hope and motivation.

Quickly as it became the year of the horse, as a twist from ‘hot girl summer’, I started to see a lot of online content using the term the year of the ‘whorse’ as a metaphor for a year of sexual freedom and loving yourself. The term transcends mere provocation; a radical reclamation of bodily autonomy, confidence, and living entirely for oneself, rather than for the external gaze.

As a visual metaphor, I worked with latex designers to explore my ideas on the ‘whorse’ archetype. The latex acts as a second skin—both high-shine and protective—mirroring the dual vulnerability and strength required to manifest, similarily as the year of the ‘whorse’.
