Colchester-born Flores Blue is a tender singer-songwriter, blending indie pop guitar lines with cinematic haze. Her latest EP, Treehouse, captures the delicate nostalgia we all feel for growing up and growing apart, with the quiet ache of time passing. Why did you decide to name the EP Treehouse? Is there something deeper about the title track, or does the name bring together the whole project?
I wanted the EP to encapsulate long summers in the garden as a child. This led to the lyric in ‘Trampolining’, “just a tree and a house was enough”, which I felt summed up the EP. Life was so simple, summers seemed to last forever and to pass the time, me and my friends would always climb this one tree across from my house.
Do you think that songwriting has changed the way you process your memories of the past? Especially, for this EP, one from growing up?
Songwriting helps me process past memories—it’s like wrapping them in a song and letting them go. For this EP, I leaned into nostalgia and bittersweet moments, which helped me highlight the best parts of the past. It’s both therapeutic and fun.
Were there any songs that were particularly cathartic or tough to finish? What made them more emotional?
Finishing Words felt deeply cathartic. I re-recorded the vocals last minute in just a few takes, focusing more on vulnerability than perfection. I find this song emotional as it talks about the dark sides of growing up and how innocence is lost, and how this is reflected later in life.
This is your second EP. How have you grown as an artist since that release last year?
My second EP, Treehouse, took a completely different approach. I co-produced it with Noah, with not much equipment, and we focused on the details, shaping each song to stand alone as its own story and emotional world.
What’s next for you now? Anything else in the pipeline?
I’m currently working on a new project that comes from a completely different perspective—it’s rooted in the present rather than the past. The energy is higher, more immediate, and alive. It feels like a fresh chapter creatively, and I’m genuinely excited to see it come together.
