North London’s iNKOGNiiTO is an artist unlike any other. Pushing the boundaries of electronic and experimental music, they describe their sound as “Alternative Futuristic,” and their new EP, iNKOMPLETE TERRiTORY, perfectly encapsulates this. With a strong visual identity, iNKOGNiiTO creates their own surreal world, with the six-track concept EP fusing ambient electronic, alien pop, and ambient dread into a shape-shifting, genre-blurring journey.
iNKOMPLETE TERRiTORY takes listeners on a journey through themes of identity, isolation, and finding peace in chaos. Each track feels like a piece of a puzzle that doesn’t quite fit, and that’s exactly the point. The lyrics are like coded messages, revealing layers of meaning the deeper you listen. Sonically, the EP is rich and multi-dimensional, with textured soundscapes that twist and morph, constantly building the strange, shifting world iNKOGNiiTO has created. Keeping us on our toes, you never quite know what’s around the corner, yet each song feels unmistakably their own.
One of the tracks, “Chemical X,” is a perfect example of iNKOGNiiTO’s ability to turn dark thoughts into something strangely beautiful. Inspired by ideas of mortality and inner chaos, the track builds in three parts, moving from sparse and eerie to something more intense and cinematic. With 80s-style drums and sharp synths, it captures the feeling of being on the edge. The artist explains, “The perfect ingredients for a disaster: Chemical X. A tune that redirects a futile path towards an unknown conclusion. I think about dying every day and how it doesn’t scare me — I wanted to write a song about that.”
