‘Adicta‘, the latest release from the San Francisco born singer/songwriter, tells stories of love and addiction. La Favi (Natalia Garcia), who started out on MySpace and SoundCloud became known as a singular voice within the Spanish language underground in the Americas and Europe for her blend of Andalusi influences in these genres. Her tracks have been described as “danceable anthems for a world in ruins” that unite ethereal harmonies with distortion and bass.
On ‘Adicta’ Favi’s voice makes the listener feel the intense emotions that drive dependency. The 10 tracks that alternate between Spanish, English and Spanglish unite sonic elements of trap and club with traditional melodies that undulate between nihilism and hope, adrenaline, sadness, seduction and sweetness. The album was produced under the Parisian label Promesses with European rap and club producers including: Brodinski and Modulaw on “Fall in Love”, Glass on “Ashes”, rosaliedu38 on “Ketamina” and Maoupa Mazzocchetti on “Ecstasy”. Mexico’s monvco was executive producer and composer of the focus track ‘Adicta’ and ‘Sticky’ featuring prominent Mexican singer-songwriter Foudeqush, co-produced by Kalifrn, all three members of Finesse Records.
On the subject of ‘Adicta’, La Favi comments: “I don’t want to romanticize it but I’m not going to live it in silence either. People get high to escape the pain. We all get addicted to something that makes us feel good or sometimes makes us feel less. For people who are struggling with an addiction I want the message to be: believe in yourself. You can find a way out. But you’re going to have to feel all those emotions. And lose your fear.”
The seemingly anachronistic sonic elements and influences joined together in ‘Adicta’ paint a vivid sonic capture of dreams and memories of the artist that offers an intimate approach to her subconscious in this transgressive LP that promises to be remembered as a heart wrenching cross-border club classic.
