We’ve caught up with her after the release of her new single ‘Passenger Side’, featuring Scorcher.
What was it that made you reach out to Scorcher? What did he bring to the track that surprised or excited you?
He followed me on Instagram. So, naturally, I sent a message saying thank you for the follow, and the rest was history.
He brought everything I thought he would. he is a legend in the game, so I was just grateful to have him bless the track
Your style blends the finesse of R&B with UK Rap. Do you see that duality as central to your musical identity?
Definitely, not many people can sing and rap and do them both exceptionally well, so it is central to my musical identity.
With that in mind, who is your dream collaboration and why?
My dream collaboration is with Lauryn Hill because she is an icon.
When someone hears the name Layyah in five years, what are you hoping they’ll think? With such a strong start to your career, what kind of legacy are you building toward?
I will be a household band, and when someone hears the name Layyah, I want them to think that she is unique, talented, raw and authentic.
