The ability to let someone go often lands unexpectedly, and the consequent emotion gasps and sighs with relief.
Alongside the premiere of the music video, the soul-drenched powerhouse REIGNS shares a new single, ‘Never Be Forgotten,’ a raw and intricate response to seeing a failed relationship for what it was. The black-and-white beach scene depicts REIGNS’ vulnerability intensified by the neutral aesthetic, whose emotion is elevated by the rigorous crashing sea waves.
Released via her own label, on ‘Never Be Forgotten,’ REIGNS steps away from the feeling of grief, replaced by the sharper realisation that she’s been drowning in the inevitable farewell for way too long, and rage prevails. The tracks alongside the visuals showcase REIGNS’ piercing lyrical work and haunting musicality.
“We wrote this song about reaching that point where you know a passionate but failed relationship needs to be laid to rest,” REIGNS explains. “It almost felt easier to hold on to the weight of it than to truly move on—and I think we’ve all been there at some point. I wanted to give the relationship a kind of theatrical send-off, which is why we chose to shoot in black and white. The cliffs and the raging sea mirrored the storm of emotions I was feeling at the time. In many ways, that chapter of my life ended there, and from it came ‘Never Be Forgotten’.”
On ‘Never Be Forgotten,’ REIGNS is free of memories trapping her in an illusion, where hope and love overturned all the ugliness. Wishing for a blank page, REIGNS relies on her powerful vocals to deliver an arena-worthy heartbreak anthem.
