Sofia Härdig Sets the Tone for New Album with ‘Lighthouse of Glass’

Ahead of the release of Swedish multi-instrumentalist Sofia Härdig’s ninth studio album, Lighthouse of Glass, on April 11, fans will get another glimpse of what’s to come with her latest single, ‘In Silence’

Soft acoustic guitar sets the scene for a song Härdig says was ‘built in solitude.’ Powerful bass creates a gritty sound reminiscent of Stevie Nicks and Blondie, with Härdig’s raw and intense power drawing vocal comparisons to Patti Smith.

The song takes the listener on a hypnotic journey with several peaks and valleys, with alluring changes in intensity in the urgency and punch of the instrumentation throughout the song. The contributions on horn in the background deliver a complexity to the sound of the song, especially in the middle section where Härdig’s vocal performance is at its strongest.

Härdig didn’t shy away from deep reflection on her process in writing ‘In Silence.’ She described the idea of solitude, which played a large role in the creation of this piece, as ‘the breaking point of reality where anything can happen.’ Her poetic lyricism conjures vivid introspection, and her words personify the abstract idea of silence. ‘The silence I am breaking apart…where the words sleep. And in that silence we rise,’ she sings, an excerpt that represents the multi-layered instrumentality and songwriting key to Härdig’s success over the years.

The track only found its way onto the album after being unearthed from Härdig’s archives, and luckily it did, because listeners are in for a treat with this vintage release laden with influences from the 70s soul and post punk. The single is an excellent preview to Härdig’s upcoming album Lighthouse of Glass, and builds anticipation for what should be a welcome addition to her musical portfolio.

Drawing from a diverse range of influences including Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, and Alan Vega, Lighthouse of Glass represents Härdig’s most ambitious work to date. The self-produced collection, crafted between her home studio and an intensive residency at Visby Center for Composers, defies genre constraints as it moves fluidly through alternative, gothic, and post-punk landscapes, with each track serving as a meticulously designed gateway to expansive sonic worlds.
