Sky Jetta recently released her electrifying debut single ‘Free’, harnessing a fusion of alternative grit and drum and bass movement. Rooted in themes of liberation and self-expression, it’s filled with enchanting vocals and high-energy backdrops. Sky is also celebrated for her work in fashion campaigns with a slew of household names, combining artistry and style as a songwriter and DJ. Already captivating an audience, it won’t be long until Sky is established as a talent to watch.
Let’s start with your debut single! It’s powerful, genre-bending and polished, can you dive into the inspirations behind the track and how it expresses your artistic journey?
My debut single is a reflection of everything I am as an artist—genre-bending, bold, and aware of my emotions. I drew inspiration from my experiences as a performer, blending different influences to create something that feels unique yet relatable. It’s polished because I wanted it to represent the growth in my artistic journey, but it’s also raw in its emotion and intention. This track is my way of introducing myself to the world—unfiltered and unapologetically me.
How do your live experiences as a high-energy DJ and performer influence your songwriting and production, do you write your music to fit those experiences?
Absolutely. My live experiences as a high-energy DJ and performer are a huge influence on my songwriting and production. There’s nothing like feeling the energy of a crowd—it shapes how I think about the music I create. I’m always considering how a track will hit on the dancefloor or how it can amplify a moment during a set. While I don’t write music strictly to fit those experiences, they’re always in the back of my mind, inspiring me to create sounds that connect with people in the same visceral way live performances do.
Fashion is another significant part of your identity, and you’ve worked with brands like Nike and Burberry. Can you talk about those experiences and what fashion means to you as a creative?
Fashion has always been a core part of my identity, especially as an entertainer and creative. Studying fashion in college gave me a deep appreciation for its role in storytelling and self-expression. Working with brands like Nike and Burberry has been an incredible extension of that—Nike embodies innovation and energy, while Burberry taught me the power of timeless reinvention. For me, fashion is a way to communicate who I am and enhance the worlds I create through my work.
You’ve made Vogue and Essence best-dressed lists, but you’ve already shown your potential in music, how do you juggle these two disciplines, and do the two ever feed into one another?
Fashion and music are both core parts of who I am, so they naturally feed into each other. As an entertainer and creative, I see them as two ways of telling the same story—whether it’s through a lyric or a look, both are about evoking emotion and leaving an impression. Being recognized by Vogue and Essence for my style is amazing, but it’s also an extension of how I present myself as an artist. Juggling both can be a challenge, but they fuel each other. Music inspires my style, and fashion helps shape the visual identity of my work—it’s all one cohesive expression of creativity.
Final question, as you look to the future, where next? Anything we can look forward to?
I’m really excited about what’s ahead. My upcoming EP is a personal journey through different sounds of dance music—there’s no single subgenre, just a blend of what inspires me. I’m also working on other creative projects that mean a lot to me, and I can’t wait to share them with the world.
