On a particular crispy night in late November, Hackney’s hidden gem Night Tales Loft becomes a momentary vacuum of tropical warmth, an eager audience awaiting the man of the hour, WizTheMc, the talent behind the viral hit “Show Me Love,” which has attracted nearly 500 million Spotify streams.
As the second stop of his YEBO Nights tour, London welcomes the South African-German singer/songwriter, WizTheMc, who commands the entire room with a smooth entrance. Standing on the right side of the stage, WizTheMc passes by us with undeniable charisma and a hypnotic spell that quickly draws the audience in.
With NTL’s capacity of 600 people, London’s YEBO Night is taken over by an overwhelming joy and euphoria as WizTheMc performs his entire debut EP. Opening the short set with his mega-hit, “Show Me Love,” WizTheMc showcases a natural, phenomenal stage presence that is symbiotic with everyone’s euphoric energy. The essence of YEBO, alongside WizTheMc’s signature sound, lies within the purest celebration of life, emphasised with gripping hooks and unmistakable choruses.
Moving through the rest of the 7-track EP, WizTheMc gets the temperature up with “Take My Mind,” “Sensational,” and “All I Need.” YEBO, meaning ‘Yes’ in Zulu, reinforces the all-around optimism and celebration of freedom. WizTHeMc is set to return to London for his performance at the Capital’s Jungle Bell Ball on December 7th, after his shows at the Avicii Arena in Sweden and 1LIVE Krone TV Performance in Germany.
For a post-show debrief, WizTheMc chats to Noctis about how “Show Me Love” has changed his life, the flow state of the YEBO writing process, collaborating with Tyla, and future manifestation.
Congratulations on your new EP, YEBO. It was amazing to see your fans’ response to your live performance in London. How did you enjoy the show?
Thank you, I loved it! London felt really special to me – I love how excited and engaged the crowd was.
How did you choose the cities for your YEBO takeover?
I put up a few stories asking fans where I should bring the Yebo Nights. When I went and looked up where people wanted to see me and the cities that have been supporting me over the past few months, I really wanted to come and show some love back. It’s great meeting those people in real life!
How was it meeting your fans?
I love it, especially hearing the stories of how people found my music and what it means to them. Means a lot to me.
What is your favourite thing about performing at an intimate venue like the Night Tales Loft?
Intimate venues are my favourite because you can see & meet everyone & get a feel for everyone’s energy. NT’s was the perfect spot to make YEBO Nights happen.
Did you expect your single, “Show Me Love” to go viral as it did?
Not at all. Otherwise, I would’ve definitely put it out sooner haha! We sat on it for 8 months before releasing but the timing was perfect and it all worked out.
How did the song change your career’s trajectory?
It completely changed it. I’ve had success with some of my older tracks but this tops it. I could’ve never expected that Show Me Love would hit 400 million streams in the first 6 months. I feel like it has allowed me to dream even bigger now!
What can you tell us about collaborating with Tyla?
The whole collaboration felt surreal. When I first found out she was jumping on the remix, I couldn’t believe it. Meeting her and playing Coachella with her was definitely one of the most exciting days I had this year.
What were some of the main lessons you took away from working on YEBO?
To trust my gut and not rush anything. I truly believe that songs come in phases and all the songs need to come at the right time. It was the most laid back and flow state writing process I ever had.
What are you manifesting for your career and where would you like to see yourself and your music to go next?
I’m looking forward to working on new music and catching new vibes! Otherwise, I’m excited to play more shows and meet more people next year. Would love to bring my songs to as many people as possible!
