For the premiering single, ‘Ping Pong,’ London-based electronic pop singer Sofi Vonn switches things up and goes against her usual creative process in light of spontaneous stylistic experimentation. Using her generation-alternating voice, Vonn aims to use her platform for authentic yet universal storytelling, narrating tales of youth.
Born and raised in New York, in the eclectic neighborhood of West Village, Sofi Vonn was always in a supply of stimulating, idea-stirring environments. On top of her hometown, she has grown into a student of life, collecting bits and pieces of various cultures, genres, and creative tendencies.
Sofi Vonn’s mark on the world traveled all the way through Switzerland, New Orleans, Berlin, and back to New York. Now she resides in London, where she just finished her master’s degree in Popular Music at the prestigious Goldsmith’s University. Each destination symbolized a new learning curve and a destiny-fuelled nudge to her true calling – music.
From studying psychology to falling in love with DJing and techno and landing a full-time job at BMG record label, Sofi Vonn absorbed information and marketing skills of music and what it means to be an artist. It is fair to say; she is committed as after all this experience, she chooses to be a solo artist and trusts her creative instincts.
‘Ping Pong’ acts as the newest installment into the Sofi Vonn electronic pop seance of a repertoire following up previous hits like ‘Famous‘ and ‘Rumours.’ She opens up about the track’s different approach:“I experimented stylistically with ‘Ping Pong’ and really love how it turned out. The groove of the production made the process really fun and natural. It’s interesting how different the process felt to my previous records, which often start with lyrics and/or an idea. Focusing more on style helped me creatively, as these are some of the fastest lyrics I’ve ever written. It’s definitely a change of pace, but I’m looking forward to reactions and hope to do more similar stuff in the future.”
Sofi Vonn is headstrong, educated, talented, and excited to write records alongside her mentor Charlie Walk (who helped launch the careers of Lorde, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd, among many others). Check out Noctis’ premiere of ‘Ping Pong’ below.
