Presentation style fashion events are seemingly becoming more and more popular. In de Fichier’s case, they went for an interactive showcase which highlighted the garments as models interspersed themselves through the crowd. Garments slowly slinked past guests as they were able to take in intricate details that would’ve been lost on the runway.Â
Not only did the models mix in with the crowd of attendees, there was also another layer of interactiveness to the showcase. Upon walking up the double staircase at Carlton House Terrace, we were immediately greeted by a more relaxed environment where couches and chairs were presented for guests. The second room included clothes racks with the garments available for attendees to engage with up close and personal, a final element being that they could ask to see their own selected combinations of the collection on the models.
The collection featured stunning silk above-elbow evening gloves, draping melon sleeves, and sensual strappy open backs. Halter Necks centred at the nape and drew outward over the models’ chest, exposing their abdomen. As silk careened toward the tile in the way of floor length dresses, works were both skintight and flattering. Sophistication was exalted throughout this collection. All sans an unapproachable starchiness that can sometimes present when working with more modest shapes. Tactful asymmetry presented whilst ruched detail reinforced the looks.
Noctis was able to catch a couple of minutes with De Fichier’s Creative Director, Yubo Zhang. We discussed the vision behind this collection and how multi-disciplinary event formats can paint a fuller picture of collections for attendees.Â
Tell us about the inspiration behind this collection?
It’s about a spirit of adventure. What I try to do is break through people’s stereotypes. So, when people tend to think about adventure – they think of more durable textures, hard and dangerous environments.
In this collection – I’ve used very soft & delicate material to bring this idea of adventure into actual and daily life. It’s about the contrast between different materials and combinations.
Can you tell me about the creative vision behind the format of the event tonight?
So, this is mostly inspired by salon shows. I think we should bring this tradition back a little bit, where models are walking around the venue, for guests to see the garments up close.
Runway shows usually run very fast, just ten to fifteen minutes and often people say that they go too quick. You can’t see the details, people can’t have contact with the clothes.
With this event – you can ask models to wear what you want them to wear, to build your own combination and see how it plays out. So this is more exclusive and matches with our purpose which highlights our customer.
If you could go back to yourself before you started your journey in the fashion world?
You need to work and try to get more opportunities assisting other brands/ creatives before you start your own projects. This will help diversify your experience and your own creative vision over time.
Immersive experiences such as this redefine the relationships that luxury fashion holds with its audience. The designs were graceful and delicate, sourced from ethical origins – the materials included elements of lamb woll, alpaca, leather, silk and lace. The brand also showcased its first steps into an expansion into jewellery with this selection of works. Some of the most exciting features being, lab-grown diamonds from Carson Gray Sustainable Lab.
This season’s collection entitled, Episode 4, celebrates femininity through the lens of refined adventure. No need to hike up your muddy boots to embody this concept in your daily life, sometimes all it takes is gloriously tailored silks and a little vigour for experimentation.
