For those in the know, it’s a long-awaited release. As November reached a mid-point, WUNDER BETA released Love You To Beats, an EP that brings together a year of releases and half a decade of artistic work in a single Electro-bossa, alt-pop package. The lead single is ‘Live In The Now’, a track that, for many reasons, epitomises the WUNDER BETA mission.
London-based and Brazilian-born, the story of this artist extends far beyond the EP. Beta began her career as a computer science student and has become a serial creative entrepreneur, having been part of the founding team of BAFTA-winning game designers Bossa Studios. Her greatest successes have come from taking leaps of faith; even her move to London was on the back of a lost bet at a time when Beta didn’t speak English. Nonetheless, Beta went on to be recognised as a major figure in technology, winning a prestigious spot as one of Forbes’ Top 50 Women.
Though it paints an important contextual portrait of WUNDER BETA, the career is not the story. The story is of a successful woman changing her mission from material markers to a sense of fulfilment. The journey began with a revelation to live more slowly, more intentionally, to savour every moment of a life that’s always shorter than you imagine.
Love You To Beats, then, is a project of self-discovery and awareness. The final single, in kaleidoscopic colour, ‘Live In The Now’, brings together this renewed purpose, the importance of this life decision, made all the more poignant by a sudden loss
In Beta’s words, “In a world where we’re constantly anxious and multitasking, presence feels like a radical act…I realised how brittle life is. We’re here for a flash, and often we waste it on things that have little importance.”
‘Live In The Now’ is written to feel “like a cosmic transcendence, the sky opening, your chest rising, the future and past melting into one hug.” She adds, “Look up. Feel the sunshine and the moonlight. Step into your soul. Reach new heights. Freeze time, at least for one track.”
Delivered through Electro-bossa, alt-pop fuelled by Brazilian heritage and atmospheric intention, the sounds whirl between perspectives, evoking dreamlike, immersive and euphoric emotions. The EP is a debut. Still, it’s the culmination of a year that has demonstrated a clear vision and direction, expanding the world of WUNDER BETA beyond music alone, setting the stage for the artist who may well go on to be a boundary-breaking force.
