Spring Style Refresh: Trend Pick ‘n’ Mix

Warmer weather is (finally!) here, so it’s time to forget our winter coats and dive into the new season. From denim through polka dots to animal print, Noctis Fashion Editor Florentyna Syperek shows how to mix and match the current fashion favourites.

Polka Dots + Pink

Prim and proper polka dots have had a youthful makeover for spring. A perfect pairing with pink, keep your look chic, yet playful by adding black or neutrals. Juxtapose an effortlessly elegant CARO Editions scarf, opulent freshwater pearl brooch from Norwegian brand Pearl Octopuss.y or sensual sheer skort by 1XBLUE with sharp menswear tailoring from Ben Sherman and a pair of chunky Timberland platform boat shoes. Finish off the look with whimsical accessories, like a pair of throwback y2k shades via Rokit Vintage, a cutesy padded sling bag by NYC-based, Japan-inspired brand Strawberry Western, and a versatile ruffle strap from Brighton accessory brand Made By Nelly. This spring it’s all about mixing practical with preppy.

Animal Print + Maximalism

Leopard, tiger, zebra… Whatever your animal of choice, print is hot, hot, hot. It’s a great choice for maximalist divas, who love to throw everything AND the kitchen sink at their look. If you prefer to ease yourself into the trend, try choosing one animal print and pepper it in with some trendy accessories, like a pair of Oakley zebra sunglasses, bestselling tiger tights from Swedish Stockings or chic city cowgirl mules from Western Affair. For those playing dress-up at a more advanced level, add bold colours to the mix. For inspo, see a one-of-a-kind bowler bag from Senja by Maddie with its statement fuschia, a rainbow-hued ring by Danish jeweller Sif Jakobs or a psychedelically polychromatic midi by Desigual. Finally, rather than a cherry on top, opt for rainbow sprinkles. Whether you prefer to quickly accessorise with a rhinestone embellished collar by HuDieGongZhu or take a DIY approach by playing around with Starface patches, don’t forget that baby, you’re a star!

Butter Yellow + Powder Blue

Pastels? For spring? Groundbreaking. Buttery soft yellow continues to be in vogue, so take notes from the sky and pair this sunny shade with calming blue hues. Be gentle with yourself this Taurus season, opting for an organic cotton-jersey tank top from Amsterdam-based FLORE FLORE and a silky smooth Disney-Channel-chic-meets-lingerie-as-daywear trousers by Ashley Williams. With the weather still noncommittal, be ready for anything thanks to a stylish rain bonnet designed by Margate maximalist @ohhello.amanda or cool-girl sunnies from Australian designer Poppy Lissiman. Finish off the look with a quirky pair of shoes from the Camper x Issey Miyake collaboration and a whimsical necklace by Glaswegian jewellery maker Poppy Langridge. For bonus points: try adding playful polka dot accessories, such as a made-to-order bag from slow fashion brand Ellie’s xx or a pair of tights from Moody MuMu.

Red + Denim

Tomato season won’t begin for a couple of months, but juicy red is already here to energise our wardrobes for spring. Take cues from the picnic basket – from a gingham linen scrunchie by ethical brand Bou Soie or checked capris from London newcomers du jour ARODAZI, to a berry covered Stella McCartney top and matching berry-hued lip tint from LANEIGE. Style this punchy colour with laid-back denim for the perfect effortlessly cool look. Still haven’t found your dream denim piece? Try barrel leg patchwork jeans created by Seasalt Cornwall in collaboration with Beyond Retro using pre-loved denim or a zip-up star-printed jacket from Vans. For simple looks, add cool accessories in matching colours, such as leather ballerinas from Lili Curia or a recycled nylon bag from MONTY. The devil is in the details.
