Gia Lily‘s latest single, ‘I’d Do It For You,’ cements her position as a rising star. Known for her unique style and commanding presence, Gia continues to gain momentum since her 2021 debut, with widespread support from tastemakers and radio, including Radio 1’s Future Pop.
Her new track breaks from the typical summer hits with its distortion-laden sound and powerful, stadium-ready riffs. The song is a bold exploration of love, pairing Gia’s delicate yet fierce vocals with driving beats and guitar. Written with her partner and producer Callum Rich, the track embodies a carefree, in-the-moment vibe—a shift from her usual introspective songwriting.
Gia’s live performances have taken her to iconic venues across the UK, where she has shared the stage with artists like Naomi Jon and Billy Lockett. With a sold-out headline show and upcoming projects that channel her “delusional lover-girl” persona, Gia’s influence continues to grow. We caught up with her to chat about the new single!
Your new track, ‘I’d Do It For You,’ is described as a distortion-filled anthem with a unique blend of powerful riffs and delicate vocals. Can you walk us through the creative process behind this song and how it reflects your current artistic vision?
Absolutely! I wrote this with my partner and producer one night earlier this year, and really I wasn’t planning on writing anything at all that night. He started playing the guitar riff that you hear throughout the song, and I just felt it in my booones! The first verse melody came instantly along with the lyrics, then we worked on the pre and that led to the chorus. That’s kind of backwards to how we usually write, as usually I’ll write the chorus first and we’ll kinda base the song around that moment, but doing it this way for this song felt super natural.
You’ve mentioned that “I’d Do It For You” was written during a spontaneous midnight session with your partner and producer, Callum Rich. How does collaborating with someone close to you influence the songwriting process, and what was the atmosphere like when you created this track?
Honestly it makes the whole process better x1000. We just really understand each other creatively and emotionally, so when it comes to writing and producing, it feels so easy. Most of the songs we have written are finished within a few hours from beginning. It’s the thing I look forward to most, and it will always be a huge part of our lives. We started writing and producing for other artists last year too! I love it. He is truly the most kind and talented person I know and I feel very lucky to get to do what I do with Callum every day.
You’ve shared the stage with rising stars like Naomi Jon and Billy Lockett and performed at iconic venues across the UK. How have these live experiences shaped your stage presence, and what have been some of the most memorable moments from your performances?
Ah it still feels crazy!! Opening for artists I’ve admired for years will never feel real. Getting to experience them on stage and how they are with their community was all the more inspiring. I love witnessing artists do their thing yknow? Crazy magical. I have many moments I hold close to my heart, but the one that comes to mind now is when I opened for Naomi Jon at Oslo. It was a sold-out show when I announced it, and so there were 400 people in the audience that had never heard of me before, but their energy was truly insane. It felt like they were really there for the music, and wanted to hear my stories. We were laughing, dancing, crying and more, and what’s so sad is I hardly have any videos from the night!! But it’s beautiful to look back on in my mind and those who I shared it with that night. I will forever be grateful for the artists that have me on before their set.
Your songwriting collaborations include working with industry titans who have contributed to the success of artists like Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato. How have these sessions influenced your approach to music, and what have you learned from working with such established songwriters?
Gosh these sessions were what dreams are made of. To be sitting in a studio amongst songwriters that have worked with some of my all time favourite artists on my favourite songs was just surreal. The energy was elite. I was sooo nervous going to a couple of them because they are gems of the industry, but they all made me feel so at home and genuinely wanted me to hear my stories and lyrics – and my god we created bangers 😉 forever grateful!
In addition to your music, you’ve ventured into acting and modeling, with roles in films like ‘Light’ and ‘Cognition.’ How do these creative pursuits complement your music career, and do you see them influencing your music in any way?
The funny thing is I started out in acting and modelling, and singing was just a hobby that I used as an outlet to process my emotions when I didn’t know another way how to. It was only when I started posting on TikTok, and people kept following, that I realised I maybe could actually take it further than just sitting on all these songs that I’ve written in my bedroom. Modelling and acting have really helped me personally – being around different crews and people on set every day and seeing a project coming together. I feel like all three go hand in hand pretty nicely, and I’m looking forward to everything I have coming up involving them!
Thank you so much for the interview Noctis, I really enjoyed chatting 🙂
