Creating “If Only U Knew” was an incredible journey. I wanted to blend R&B, Jersey Club, and Afro-beat elements to show the diverse influences that shape my music. It started with a lot of listening and experimentation, drawing inspiration from artists I admire and exploring how different genres could complement each other. I collaborated with very talented producers and musicians who understood my vision, allowing the project to evolve and come together. This shift came from personal experiences, exploring new music styles, and wanting to push my creative limits. Over the past year, I’ve tried different genres and mixed various elements to find a unique sound that feels true to me. You’ve mentioned that your EP contains R&B love songs. How do personal experiences and emotions play into your songwriting, particularly on tracks like ‘CALL ME’ and ‘PROVE IT’?
Personal experiences and emotions are the backbone of my songwriting. When I write, I draw from my own feelings and the situations I’ve been through or witnessed. This helps me create music that feels authentic and relatable. For my R&B love songs, I channel the highs and lows of love. Whether it’s the excitement of a new romance or the heartbreak of a breakup. By tapping into these genuine emotions, I aim to connect with my listeners on a deeper level, making my music resonate with their own experiences.
You’ve been compared to artists like H.E.R. for your vocal quality and emotional depth. How do you balance these comparisons with carving out your own unique space in the music industry?
Being compared to artists like H.E.R. is incredibly flattering because I admire her talent and emotional depth. However, I believe it’s important to stay true to my own voice and artistic vision. I balance these comparisons by continuously experimenting with different genres and styles, incorporating my multilingual background, and drawing from personal experiences.
