Rex & The Rhythm’s ‘Highs & Grows’ brings together Psychedelic Soul and 90s Hip-Hop

Rex & The Rhythm, the Barbados-born artist now based in Los Angeles, has just dropped his latest single, ‘Highs & Grows,’ a track that ventures into a unique blend of psychedelic soul, alt-pop, and hip-hop.

For people interested in 90s legends like Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest, Rex is one to add to your playlist and to keep on your radar!

He started playing the drums at nine, then later picked up the guitar and bass. At 15, his mother put him in the Caribbean pop group Cover Drive she co-founded, gaining recognition with three UK top-ten hits and opening for major artists like Rihanna and Lauryn Hill.

After graduating from Full Sail University in 2020, Rex released his debut EP, #127 Solace, in 2021. Following the success of his sophomore project, “Secrets Behind Our Smiles,” released in February 2023, Rex continues to evolve his sound with his latest work.

‘Highs & Grows’ stands out for its exploration of live percussion, sun-drenched electric guitar, and transcendental lyricism. The track’s mix of euphoric harmonies creates an uplifting sound that captures the highs and lows of the human experience. The track’s rich amalgamation of influences showcases Rex’s ability to seamlessly blend genres, resonating with fans who appreciate a diverse sonic palette.

Directed by DannyJFilms, the music video pays homage to Outkast’s household favourite “Hey Ya!” and offers a glimpse into Rex’s creative process and authenticity as an artist.

As he continues to carve his niche in the industry, ‘Highs & Grows’ serves as a marker of Rex & The Rhythm’s ongoing exploration of new musical horizons, promising audiences an authentic and dynamic experience at the intersection of various genres.
