Terri Walker Breathes New Life Into The UK Soul Scene

Acclaimed UK R&B and Soul singer-songwriter Terri Walker has today released her brand new single Finally Over You, via Wings of a Hummingbird Records/Believe UK.

Produced by Children of Zeus (Tyler Daley & Konny Kon), ‘Finally Over You’ follows Terri’s 2022 release ‘No Good Man, and sees the South-London artist re-emerge onto our soundwaves with this latest single. Fusing elements of Dance and Electronics into her well-recognised Soul sound, the track is a feel-good, nostalgia-inducing offering from Walker that effortlessly shows her musical evolution, and nods to the sounds that have inspired her along the way, whilst still embracing the origins of her artistry.

‘Finally Over You’ precedes a string of singles leading up to the release of Terri’s highly-anticipated forthcoming album, My Love Story out April 14th. The new project comes 20 years to the day of her debut release – the 2003 critically-acclaimed, Def Soul debut project Untitled which gained Walker national, and international, accolade. The 14-track album which featured collaborations with Mos Def and Blueblood was an instant hit, and saw Walker vying against Beyoncé for Best Album at the 2003 MOBO Awards, as well as her nomination that year for Best Newcomer, Best R&B Act, UK Act of the Year. ‘Untitled’ was further acclaimed when it was nominated for the 2003 Mercury Music Prize.

Celebrating the single and album announcement with a party at Brix LDN on 3rd March, Terri took us back to 2003 by performing songs from her acclaimed album ‘Untitled’ whilst also peddling tracks from her upcoming album ‘My Love Story’ out next month. Award winning DJ collective Rampage Sound channeled the good vibes at last nights event, attended by legends in the scene such as Donea’o, Kele Le Roc, Children of Zeus and Joe Buddha.

By her own admission, Terri has come full circle and says of the opening track: “’Finally Over You’ sets the tone for this next offering”, and that she “has arrived at my destination to reap the rewards of my labour.”

Inspired by the sounds of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Mica Paris, classically trained Walker credits these renowned singers for her aspirations of wanting to pursue a career in music. By 17 she was actively perfecting her craft and pursuing her goals. Surrounded by the sound of UK Garage that reigned supreme at the time of her ascent, Walker found herself a part of the genre, contributing vocals to tracks for the likes of Shanks & Bigfoot and Jaimeson whilst still creating music for a hip-hop and urban-soul audience.

Bringing back a flair of nostalgia alongside a breath of fresh air, ‘Finally Over You’ is ready to dominate the soundwaves and proves that Terri Walker still reigns supreme.
