Thiago Trosso Brings Optimism in the Single ‘Future’s Looking Bright’

Thiago Trosso was born in Brazil. Performing as a singer-songwriter, his musical growth up until this point has happened over two decades.

Most of this career wasn’t spent as a solo artist, however. As part of the Brazilian ska punk band Abraskadabra, he garnered label attention in Brazil and the USA, performing on four continents at various festivals. Moving to the UK in 2015 to evolve his sound further, Thiago’s reach grew as part of London group Popes of Chillitown, once again championing ska, dub and punk with a progressive edge. The band landed multiple UK chart slots along the way.

For Thiago Trosso’s solo releases, you only need to look back five years. 2021’s Saying Yeah and 2025’s Grief Is Not A Linear Process have already forged his experience in collectives into impressive folk-rock projects with him completely at the helm.

Magnet, the third album from this project, is slated for release later in the year, but has already seen a few singles drop for fans to get in their headphones. The latest of these is ‘Future’s Looking Bright’.

Introduced by a playful acoustic guitar arpeggio, Thiago’s voice is gentle and generous. With more acoustic layers and shuffling percussion, it sets out a vision of joy and contentment.

Engaging with the lyrics, the love song exterior finds a different meaning, as Thiago shares, it “explores the exciting feeling of being free from a toxic relationship and having almost infinite possibilities ahead without anyone holding you back and consuming your energy.” In a way that makes the track all the more enchanting, the love is not for someone else, but for oneself.

The momentum builds, drums come marching in, electric guitars ring out, and Thiago’s vocals become more impassioned. Starting from soft beginnings, each burst of energy can be a new climax, climbing higher and higher with brighter, louder arrangements. The music gets more energetic, packed with new melodic lines, all the while Thiago gains confidence. Uplifting is an easy adjective; a sense of optimism in the sonics is all it really takes. On this occasion, however, uplifting means coming from rock bottom and flying all the way up to the stratosphere.

If you like the sound of that, look out for Magnet by Thiago Trosso later this year.
