Nottingham raised singer, songwriter and revered pianist Natalie Duncan’s new single ‘Found Myself’ is a gorgeous culmination of sounds incorporated from a variety of other genres and influences – it is a subtle nod to her roots in Neo-Soul, Blues, R&B, and Jazz. ‘Found Myself’ is the follow-up to her hugely successful single ‘Hearts in a Cage‘, receiving playlist status on Jazz FM and obtaining wide support across BBC 6Music and BBC Radio 2.
Her new single meets the expectations of her renowned reputation – being compared to world class musicians such as Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin. The song is layered with feel good rhythms made by synths taking you on a nostalgic journey to the sounds of the 90s. In her own words, she explains, “I found myself feeling nostalgic about a simpler time… The song is about recognising that looking at the past through rose-tinted glasses, only gives you one perspective, usually a positive one.”
Duncan is not unacquainted to prolific songwriting – her lyrics are candid and straight from the heart. Collaborating with a rapper, Lauren Marshall showed beyond doubt that she was the obvious choice with her crisp flow at the end. With that, Duncan’s exceptional voice and accomplished piano playing, she has delivered a melodious number.
