On the 16th of October, the eccentric electronic group Hybrid Minds hosted their Outline show at the Brixton 02 Academy to celebrate their recent EP release called Reflections, which dropped on October 15th.
Their latest EP Reflections consists of 5 top-tier tracks featuring artists such as Grace Grundy, Stevie Parker, Grimm to name a few. Hybrid Minds constantly prick the ears with their impeccable production skills and have rightly earned spins across the airwaves globally, and their hilarious personalities have even landed them a prime time show on Kiss FM.
So far this year, before their Brixton show, Hybrid Minds have played all over the globe including festival slots at Reading, Leeds, Parklife, Love Saves The Day (and more), as well as a sell-out New Zealand tour.
Their Brixton 02 Academy show sold out 6 months before the event and was rightly expected to be one of the biggest London gigs of the year! The venue saw DJ Monrroe and DJ Bcee warm up the crowd with drum and bass liquidy goodness before boundary-breaking bass artists Hybrid Minds entered the stage to play their best tracks alongside their new music from Reflections.
Speaking on the show, partygoer/raver Lily Harvey says “The audience was lulled into a synaesthetic state, in which the audio, visuals and lights were virtually indistinguishable”. Another member of the crowd adds “It’s fookin mint like.”
Performing the new EP to stage, we experience the track ‘Fire’, the emotive liquid drum and bass weapon brimming with glistening keys and soulful vocal chops from Stevie Parker. Then the track ‘Let Go’ continued with alluring melodies, partnering playful synth structures with beautiful words from Grimm.
Whilst its focus track, ‘Blame You’, co-written with the guys by Holly Humberstone and Frances, it saw Hybrid Minds return to their roots. Speaking about ‘Blame You’, they explain: “This track has been in the works for a long time, and we are so happy to finally get it into everyone’s hands! Since nightlife has resumed, we’ve been hammering this up and down the country and the reaction has been insane!”
Finishing the show both DJ Bou and K Motionz took to the decks, capturing the crowd’s overjoyed emotions and propelling them to groove all night long! With happy tears in our eyes and our legs aching from the dancing, we thank Hybrid Minds for an iconic night that will go down in our history books!
Keep an eye out for Hybrid Minds as their electronic music thunders on!
