Lewis Capaldi’s return to BST Hyde Park on Sunday 12 July is set to be one of the biggest moments of the summer, but anyone arriving just in time for the headline set could be missing out on some of the festival’s most exciting talent.
As well as performances from Conan Gray, Absolutely and Jacob Alon, the line up is packed with artists who are rapidly making a name for themselves and could easily be among the weekend’s biggest talking points.
Leading the charge is Alessi Rose, whose infectious pop tracks have earned her a growing army of fans. The Derby born singer songwriter has become one of the UK’s most exciting emerging artists, with the kind of relatable storytelling that connects instantly with a young audience.
Jacob Alon arrives at Hyde Park with plenty of momentum behind them. Blending folk influences with deeply personal songwriting, the rising star has been said by many as one of the most intriguing new voices to emerge over the past year. Their stripped back sound should provide one of the day’s most captivating sets.
For fans of dreamier indie sounds, Alexandra Savior is well worth seeking out. The American singer songwriter has built a cult following thanks to her cinematic style, smoky vocals and effortlessly cool aesthetic. She’s the kind of artist people often discover at festivals and spend the rest of the summer listening to.
Sadie Jean is another artist expected to pull a sizeable crowd. After breaking through online, she has quickly proved herself to be far more than a viral success, winning fans with heartfelt piano led tracks and a knack for capturing the emotions of young adulthood.
Indie pop favourite Ber also brings plenty of promise. Her honest, conversational songwriting and catchy melodies have helped her build a dedicated following on both sides of the Atlantic, making her one of the bill’s most exciting prospects.
Scottish singer-songwriter Murdo Mitchell adds another local connection to the day, while Beattie continues to gain recognition for her emotionally charged performances and confessional lyricism. Luke Hart, meanwhile, has spent years honing his craft on the live circuit and arrives with a reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling independent performers.
Those looking for something a little more energetic should make a beeline for Mark Sharp & The Bicycle Thieves. Their feel good indie rock sound and festival ready choruses are guaranteed to get the crowd moving long before Capaldi walks on stage.
While Lewis Capaldi’s long awaited Hyde Park return will undoubtedly be the headline attraction, BST has always been at its best when introducing audiences to artists on the verge of something bigger. This year’s line up is packed with names that could soon be graduating from afternoon slots to headline stages of their own.
Our advice? Get there early. Your next favourite artist might just be playing before Lewis.
