I had the pleasure of attending the Clancy World Tour at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on behalf of Noctis, and it was unlike any show I’ve experienced before. Twenty Øne Pilots have been a force in the alternative music scene for over 16 years, and their growth as performers has been so evident in their live shows. Their over two-hours long set was packed with nostalgia, effortlessly blending fan favourites from earlier albums with new tracks from “Clancy.”
The night catered to both longtime fans and new listeners, with songs from “Blurryface” and more met with just as much energy as their latest material. Growing up with their music, being in a room full of people singing along to throwbacks like “Heavydirtysoul” and “Stressed Out” felt healing. The pyrotechnics were incredible, flames, lights, and seamless transitions between songs kept the energy going from start to end.
One of the most memorable moments came during “Trees,” when Tyler and Josh moved into the centre of the crowd and were completely surrounded by fans. The B-stage moments were some of the best in the entire show. “The Line” especially stood out as Tyler’s vocals were raw, passionate, and vulnerable. By sheer luck, I found myself right in front of Josh’s B-stage, witnessing up close the best part of the night. The way they interacted with the crowd felt more like a reunion than a concert.
The symbolic touches throughout the night were beautifully done, like Josh carrying a torch through the crowd, a literal and figurative transition into the Clancy era. From the confetti to a heartfelt moment where a young fan was brought on stage to sing “Ride,” the night was perfect in every aspect.
It’s a performance I’ll be thinking about for a long time. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a casual listener, the Clancy World Tour is an experience i believe everyone should have at least once.
