Nurturing the upcoming voices in the fashion industry, Emerge is a platform operating at the intersection of fashion, culture and education, founded to address structural barriers within the creative industries for the future generations. Coinciding with London Fashion Week, last weekend Emerge hosted a 2 day event, providing a variety of resources for aspiring young creatives, includes masterclasses and panels on creative direction, styling, photography, modelling, fashion business and design. Rounding off an inspiring weekend, Emerge concluded the event series with ‘Emerge: Fresh in Fashion’ AW26 runway curated by the Louvre Members with Art Sect Gallery and Cold magazine spotlighting four hand-picked designers “not for what they’ve already achieved but for what they’re building.”
The show began with London-based designer Salma Tahir, whose work explores sculptural designs inspired by architecture and art installations. Her pieces displayed a taupe-to-chestnut brown palette, and her signature use of leather moulding was evident in each piece, especially in the first look, which was a one-shoulder, deep-brown, leather dress that was creased to wrap around the body in its own unique structure.
The next two looks were by All Talk Archived, a label led by two designers, Zak Cadow and James Cutler. The southwest London independent label wants their pieces to act as ‘time stamps’ to this generation. Both looks included low rise men’s leather pants with a lace-up detail at the ankle, the black pair matching with a hooded leather cargo jacket and the white pair matching with a distressed leather trench with emphasised shoulders.
Following on, Karmine, an Italian designer who focuses on creating bespoke denim pieces in purposeful, limited runs, presented their signature washed denim in both longline and cropped trench coats as well as a relaxed blazer with an upturned collar.
Finally, Kalina Doroźyńska, a designer from Warsaw, Poland, presented looks from her ‘HWDphillia’ collection, which aims to highlight the soft side to hooligan culture and working-class homes. Merging avant-garde and streetwear, her intention was clear, with one look including duvet-like pants with linen twisted around the upper body.
Speaking about the event, Devante Vaughan, Co-founder of Emerge shares “London Fashion Week remains one of the most important global stages for fashion. But access to that stage is still uneven. Emerge exists to reduce that distance. We are building a platform where emerging designers, students and independent creatives can stand alongside established industry voices, not as spectators, but as participants.”
We couldn’t agree more – holding open the door for a new generation of rising designers to find their place in a once heavily gatekept industry, platforms like Emerge are pivotal for the future of the fashion industry, as it continues to evolve to new creative heights.
